“It was of great benefit to be a part of Clyde's program. Personally, the pandemic had me going into a downward spiral. I was a single mother of a special needs child, dealing with depression, bad physical health, and detrimental financial issues, working at Whataburger (with cut hours due to COVID), and taking classes at NVC full-time. My mind was all over the place and I just couldn’t cope with the overwhelming number of daily stressors as effectively as I could've due to lack of a strong support system. Clyde's program allowed me to share with and listen to peers going through similar things. Throughout the program, I got to practice time management, emotional regulation, strategies for motivation, and growth/positive mindset to say the least. Regardless of being employed, I decided to become a part-time student and speak occasionally with a counselor, which helped improve my overall mental health. One of my favorite takeaways regarded Self Esteem and Adversity Journaling. I was asked to reflect and write about a time when I faced a major crisis/adversity, what I did and am still doing to get over it, and what I learned from the adversity. Without getting into detail, it’s extraordinary how much clearer one’s thoughts can become when written down. Needless to say that once you identify your issues, you have the power to change them.”
